Welcome Doctors!

May 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Doctors are flooding into the Lone Star State after dramatic tort reform earlier this decade.  From the WSJ…

The result is an influx of doctors so great that recently the State Board of Medical Examiners couldn’t process all the new medical-license applications quickly enough. The board faced a backlog of 3,000 applications. To handle the extra [...]

Madame Butterfly at the Miller Outdoor Theatre Tonight!

May 11th, 2008 · No Comments

Are you still around Rice and looking for something to do?  The Houston Ballet has a free performance of Stanton Welch’s Madame Butterfly in Hermann Park tonight.  My family went after the graduation festivities yesterday and it was one of the better ballet performances I’ve seen.

The Houston Wiki: Ashby High Rise

April 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

If you have any interest in the Ashby High Rise controversy (or are an early adopter who enjoys gnoming), please feel free to expand this article I’ve started at The Houston Wiki.  It’s the first that has enough structure to have a chance of being useful (but is still very incomplete)…  The structure as a whole is [...]

Some questions have been asked about the intent of The Houston Wiki.  Here’s the mission statement:
The Houston Wiki addresses unmet needs of the Houston community. The Houston Wiki is not intended to compete with Wikipedia or other user-driven formats for information about the well-known aspects of Houston. If you want to read about the Astros, see Wikipedia. Restaurant [...]

Of Wikis and School Selection

April 15th, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve spent the last several hours structuring a wiki for Houston, seeking food, and explaining to a high school senior on a multi-page Facebook thread my thinking behind not going to Harvard College (the $200,000 reason).  Anyway, I’m looking to pull together a group of contributors to seed a local wiki for Houston (and Rice!).  This would [...]
