Sweden did not just bail out its financial institutions by having the government take over the bad debts. It extracted pounds of flesh from bank shareholders before writing checks. Banks had to write down losses and issue warrants to the government.

That strategy held banks responsible and turned the government into an owner. When distressed assets were sold, the profits flowed to taxpayers, and the government was able to recoup more money later by selling its shares in the companies as well.

1. Zotero is a Firefox extension is the best citation manager with which I’ve worked.  While you’re reading papers, books, etc. online, click an icon in your address bar and it adds the citation automatically to your library.  Choose different citation styles and use it in Word or OpenOffice.  You can also import reference libraries from other inferior) citation managers.  Best of all, it’s free and open source!

2.  Thomson Reuters, owner of Endnote, is suing the makers of Zotero since it has a feature to convert the (mostly user-generated) Endnote style files to open file formats.  Boo.  If you use Endnote, consider switching to Zotero and/or sending Thomson Reuters a note requesting they spend more money making a better product and less on legal bullying.
